Hi! I'm Alicia Beck
And I want to represent our community as a member of the Champaign  City Council
District 2
Get involved with my campaign today!
I’ve been lucky to call Central Illinois my home since childhood.
I grew up in Livingston Co., where everyone waves and you can borrow a cup of sugar from your neighbor.  Eleven years ago, my husband, David, and I moved to District 2 with our then 3-year old son.  We were lucky to find our home just off Elm Boulevard on West William Street and we set to work creating our forever home.

Upon coming to Champaign, my wide professional experiences already included community organizing, civil rights, disability services, downtown development and business promotion. I spent the next several years working for the School of Social Work at the University of Illinois, raising funds to educate the next generation of social workers.  Along the way I was honored with Central Illinois Business Magazine’s 40 Under 40 and the Illinois Chapter of the National Association of Social Worker’s Emerging Social Work Leader Award.  After nearly 8 years at the University of Illinois, I left the Assistant Dean for Advancement position to pursue a new path. I currently own and operate a fitness studio in Downtown Champaign.

I have found our community rich with opportunities to serve others. I completed the United Way’s Emerging Community Leaders Program to learn more about Champaign County.  It helped to lay the ground work of my understanding of the issues faced by residents of Champaign and surrounding communities. The board of directors at Courage Connection, the board of the Eastern Illinois Association of Fundraising Professionals, Junior League, the Labor Day Parade, the PTA at Southside Elementary and the Edison Middle School PTSA are some of the formal ways I have volunteered.

The prairie has shaped me, taught me the values I live by today. It gave me roots.  From these bluestem roots grow my tremendous sense of responsibility to my community. Volunteerism, care for neighbors and friends, and the love of fellowship lie at the core of this responsibility. Now I look forward to serving my community in a whole new manner. My neighbors in District 2 and those in the larger Champaign community deserve a representative to City Council who will diligently represent their interests and needs. It’s time for a fresh perspective.
